Earliest meeting: Thursday 24th June 1819 Final meeting: Friday 27th December 1867 Today Ealing is a bustling west London suburb situated just 12 miles from the centre of the city. However, at one stage it was a quiet rural village in Middlesex and held its own race meetings. The inaugural race meeting was held in June 1819 on Ealing Dean Common, complete with grandstand, and such was the popularity that a number of meetings each year were scheduled, often in October and again just after Christmas. Crowds were boosted once the railway came to town, and at the meeting on Friday 2nd November 1866 the Railway Selling Steeplechase was sponsored by the railway company and won by Mr Daniel’s Redwing. The final meeting took place on 27th December 1867.
